The University of Jordan (UJ) has been ranked among the top 2.1% universities worldwide, and in the top 551 – 600 universities in the newly released 2017/18 QS World University Rankings.

QS Rankings are based on academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, proportion of international faculty, and proportion of international students.

UJ also ranked in the 390th place worldwide in terms of academic reputation, advancing 112 positions from last year, and moved up 63 positions to the 267th place in terms of employer reputation.

According to the new report, the amount of scientific research published by UJ in the database of the international journals Scopus in the period 2011-2015 increased by 4.1% compared to the period 2010-2014, and the number of citations per faculty in the period 2011-2016 increased by 56% compared to the period 2010-2014.

With an overall ranking of first place in Jordan, UJ was ranked top institution in 4 categories: academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, and international faculty.

UJ President Prof. Azmi Mahafzah commended the progress, confirming UJ's keenness to continue to improve its educational plans, enhance use of technology, and increase scientific research output.

QS is an annual ranking of the top 1,000 universities in the world and is considered one of the top three higher education rankings in the world in terms of importance and impact, along with the rankings of Times Higher Education and the Shanghai Rankings.

The University of Jordan (UJ) has received the largest share of scholarships and exchange opportunities within the Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility programme for students, academics and administrative staff in higher education for the academic year 2020/2021.

The program is implemented in partnership with more than (50) European and Turkish partner universities located in (26) countries around the world.

Director of the International Affairs Unit Dr. Hadeel Yaseen indicated that, since the start of the program in 2015, UJ, represented by the International Relations Department, has maintained its rank in obtaining the lion's share in terms of the number of partnerships and the number of scholarships for students and faculty members, when the number of scholarships at that time exceeded (1100) scholarships in both directions with increasingly stiff competition for them.

Tuesday 19/1/2021: The kickoff meeting of "Development Curricula for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (DeCAIR)" project was held over Zoom platform. This project is supported by the European Union within the Erasmus Plus program. The project is coordinated by the University of Jordan and includes five European partners from Germany, Italy, Spain, and Greece and two universities from Lebanon in addition to Jordan University of Science and Technology and Tafila Technical University. The project is a three-year project.

The project aims to develop and update artificial intelligence and robotics (AIR) courses in computer engineering and mechatronics engineering for both the current bachelor's and master's programs. It also aims to design and build a new master's program in AIR at the University of Jordan, and a new bachelor's program in Intelligent Systems that at Tafila Technical University. This is in addition to many other objectives, including: building the capacities of faculty members, technical assistants and students in AIR through the transfer of European expertise, networking with various companies, institutions and universities related to it, the development of new laboratories in AIR, and strengthening cooperation with local, regional and European companies to apply AIR technologies.

The General Coordinator of DeCAIR, Prof. Gheith Abandah from the University of Jordan, presented a general summary of the project, which included the objectives and importance of DeCAIR. Additionally, Abandah reviewed the main stages of implementing the project, the main work packages of the project and their distribution among the partners to guarantee the best possible results. The participants expressed their interest and strong desire for the success of this project. Additionally, the coordinators of the ten partners gave overviews about their universities and their capabilities, especially in the fields of AIR, which would help in the success of DeCAIR project.

It is worth noting that the world is witnessing rapid progress in AIR. Also, local and global markets are witnessing a strong demand for qualified professionals in these fields. Therefore, finding qualified people in AIR will create new companies, new job opportunities, and would contribute to advancing the economy.

Finally, thirty-three participants attended the meeting, including: representatives from each of the ten partners, a representative of the Erasmus Plus office in Jordan, and a representative of the Erasmus Plus office in Lebanon.​

​The University of Jordan, represented by the International Affairs Unit, in coordination with the "National Erasmus Plus office - Jordan" of the European Union, hosted a meeting to discuss capacity-building projects in higher education recently winner projects of Jordan.

The representative of the European Union in Jordan "Ms Ines Alves" and "Mr. Clivio Casali", project liaison officer at EACEA through visual communication technology, talked about ways to manage these projects in the presence of the director of the (Erasmus Plus) office in Jordan, Dr. Ahmed Abu Al-Hija, and a number of project representatives.

Eight projects to build the capacity of workers in higher education participated in the meeting, five of which were for the University of Jordan, with it unilaterally leading two of them, and it was a strategic partner in the remaining three projects.

Representatives of the winning projects participated in the meeting, as follows: The project (developing curricula for artificial intelligence and robotics), which comes in partnership with a number of higher education institutions in Jordan, Lebanon, Italy, Spain, Germany and Greece, which aims to develop programs for bachelor's and master's levels and create new specialized programs for artificial intelligence, Modern laboratories and training courses.

The International Affairs Unit organized an online training session titled "Drafting Effective Erasmus+ Project Proposals" on January 16, 2025. The session aimed to enhance participants' understanding of the requirements for writing project proposals under the Erasmus+ program and to equip them with the tools and expertise needed to develop successful and impactful proposals.

The session witnessed significant engagement from participants and included a detailed explanation of the fundamental steps for preparing proposals. It also provided practical tips on setting priorities, drafting clear objectives, and preparing accurate budgets.
