The University of Jordan (UJ) President, Prof. Nathir Obeidat, met with the leaders of visiting expert teams from the ABET organization, who are currently conducting review visits for two undergraduate programs at the University. The visiting team leaders are Prof. Jack Oguto, leading the accreditation review of the Bachelor’s Program in Land, Water, and Environment at the School of Agriculture, and Prof. Adnan Yahya, leading the review of the Bachelor’s Program in Computer Information Systems (CIS) at the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology (KASIT). The meeting was also attended by Vice President for Accreditation, Global Rankings, and Sustainability, Prof. Faleh Sawair; Vice President for Scientific Schools, Prof. Ashraf Abu Karaki; Dean of the School of Agriculture, Prof. Hadeel Ghazawi; Dean of KASIT, Prof. Basel Mahafzah; Vice Dean, Dr. Marwan Al-Tawil; Director of the Global Rankings and International Accreditation Office, Dr. Njoud Deb’ei; and Assistant Dean of the School of Agriculture, Dr. Rabie Irshaid. During the meeting, Obeidat emphasized UJ’s strategic focus on obtaining international accreditations as a means of ensuring academic program quality and alignment with global standards. He reaffirmed the University’s belief in continuous improvement, particularly in light of rapidly evolving global challenges, highlighting the importance of international academic accreditation and UJ’s aspiration to lead in this field. Obeidat underscored the significance of the School of Agriculture, one of the oldest at the University, particularly its Land, Water, and Environment Program, which plays a crucial role in supporting Jordan’s vital water sector. He also commended KASIT’s substantial progress in developing innovative programs that respond to rapid technological advancements and meet labor market demands, highlighting the School’s efforts to expand interdisciplinary research and educational programs in support of sustainable development. For his part, Oguto expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and explained that the team’s visit aims to provide guidance and support for continuous improvement rather than to conduct a traditional evaluation. In turn, Yahya noted that the purpose of the visit to KASIT is to support the renewal of ABET accreditation for the CIS program. He reiterated that the process is collaborative and focused on enhancing the program and ensuring its alignment with global accreditation standards. In addition, Sawair provided a brief overview of the University’s broader efforts in international academic accreditation. He underscored UJ’s strategic and systematic approach to achieving accreditation by studying relevant standards, selecting appropriate accrediting bodies, conducting self-assessments, and preparing reports based on best global practices, all to ensure a world-class education for UJ students with a strong emphasis on learning outcomes. It is worth noting that the ABET expert teams’ visits come as part of the University’s efforts to obtain international accreditation for the Land, Water, and Environment Bachelor’s Program at the School of Agriculture and to renew accreditation for the Computer Information Systems Bachelor’s Program at KASIT.
