In a step that reflects its deep commitment to sustainability and climate action, the University of Jordan has officially joined the “Race to Zero for Universities and Colleges” initiative, becoming the first university in Jordan to be part of this leading global movement. The university’s admission to the initiative came after fulfilling all required criteria, which included: • Setting clear target dates to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. • Developing and submitting a detailed action plan to meet this goal. • Providing an annual comprehensive report on the university’s carbon emissions. This milestone enhances the University of Jordan’s regional and international standing and reaffirms its leadership in climate and sustainability commitments. It opens new avenues for academic collaboration and international partnerships, strengthens the university’s role in leading the transition toward carbon neutrality, and creates opportunities for research projects and global events in cooperation with academic institutions worldwide under the initiative. It also aims to engage students and academic staff in sustainability efforts by involving them in projects and initiatives that promote a culture of environmental responsibility and teamwork. The University of Jordan reaffirms its strong commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and intensifying efforts to address climate challenges, maintaining its position at the forefront of influential academic institutions locally and globally.
