Who can come to the University of Jordan (UJ) as an exchange student?
To come to UJ as an exchange student, your home university must have a formal agreement for exchange studies with UJ. This can either be a specific faculty agreement (or even a specific department agreement) or it can be a university-wide agreement. Check with the International Office at your university (either the central office or at your faculty/department) to see if there is an agreement with UJ or if there is an Erasmus+ agreement and if you are eligible to go on an exchange. Your International Office can also explain what subject areas you can study as an exchange student, as defined through the particular exchange agreement in place with UJ.
How to be nominated for an exchange to UJ?
You apply for an exchange at your home university through your central International Office. Your university has its own procedures that you must follow. Your home university will be able to inform you about the nomination process for their students to go on an exchange and their specific requirements. They can also inform you about coming for one semester (half year) or two semesters (one year) of study. It is important that you have sufficient proficiency in English language. However please check with your home university regarding the required levels to be nominated for an exchange to UJ, as per the agreement in place between the two universities.
The University of Jordan's academic calendar
Fall Semester
Although the beginning and finishing dates of each semester can alter, the fall semester typically start in the
first week of October and end in the middle of January. The academic calendar will be posted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Spring Semester
The semester starts in the middle of February and ends in the beginning of June.
Summer Semester
Summer semester ususally
starts in the first week of July and ends in the beginning of September.

Grading system at UJ (ECTS Equivalency to UJ Credit Hours System)
Each of UJ 3-credit-hours courses equals 6 ECTS for the undergraduate level and 10 ECTS for the graduate level.
The full load is 30 ECTS which is equivalent to 15 UJ credit hours. In this sense, the undergraduate students may take up to 5 courses, every course equals 3 UJ credit hours and the graduate students may take up to 3 courses.
Undergraduate students are not allowed to register for graduate courses while the opposite is allowed.

Course Offerings and Language of Instruction
The University of Jordan provides a diverse selection of courses taught in both English and Arabic:
· Courses in English: Offered by the Schools of Business, Engineering, Rehabilitation Sciences, Pharmacy, Nursing, Sciences, Information Technology, and International Relations (MA).
· Courses in Arabic: Predominantly available in most undergraduate programs, especially within the humanities.
Additionally, the School of Foreign Languages offers courses in various languages. Students with sufficient proficiency in Arabic are welcome to enroll in courses taught in Arabic.
Please note that having selected courses does not guarantee their availability during the semester of mobility, as course offerings are subject to change.
UJ Language Center (UJLC)
The Language Center teaches Arabic and English communication skills to all university students and offers specialized Arabic courses to non-native speakers. We serve both local and global communities by administering local and international exams and providing training courses for students and teachers in English and Arabic.
UJLC provides first-class education and services, supporting the linguistic, intellectual, social, and cultural development of our students through talented and professional instructors, immersion in the native community, and a positive, supportive learning environment. We also offer access to opportunities that enable students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to achieve their goals.
Arabic for Non-Native Speakers: Language Center Courses
Students interested in studying Arabic Language for Speakers of Other Languages courses at the Language Center should note the following:
· Course Structure: Arabic courses are taught 20 hours per week for 16 weeks during each of the fall and spring semesters.
· ECTS Equivalency: Different home universities have varying standards for ECTS equivalency. Most assign 30 ECTS for each of the fall and spring semesters.
· Certification: At the end of the course, a separate certificate issued by the Language Center will be given to the student. The grade will not be listed in the transcript of records.

Visa Process
Foreigners do not need a visa before arriving in Jordan. NOTE: except for restricted nationalities.
If a student's nationality is unrestricted, they can obtain a one-month visa upon arrival at the airport for a fee of 40 JOD. Upon arrival, students will be guided through the procedures for visa extension or obtaining a residency permit if they are staying for two semesters.

At the University Health Care Department within the students' clinic, we offer a range of essential services to ensure your well-being, including medical treatments, X-rays, laboratory tests, and access to our in- clinic pharmacy. For cases that need further attention, we provide referrals to the University Hospital.

Accommodation
The University of Jordan offers a range of accommodation options for international students, both on-campus and off-campus.
On-Campus Housing
We have limited on-campus dormitories available exclusively for female students. Due to high demand, vacancies are rare, so we recommend applying early if you are interested in on-campus housing.
Off-Campus Housing
For more options, a wide variety of housing is available around the university. Plenty of accommodations are easily accessible and conveniently located, as the university is situated in the heart of Amman. You'll find options close to essential facilities, including restaurants, shops, transportation, and other entertainments.

Transportation
Getting from Amman Queen Alia Airport to Amman is very simple. The easiest way to reach the city center of Amman is by taking a taxi or an Airport Express bus (click here) for more information.
Public transport in Jordan is user-friendly, offering an authentic travel experience, although buses don't always follow strict schedules.
